Solar energy to preserve the environment in residential areas

The customer: St Jean St Pierre urban development zone(Narbonne)
950 homes, the majority of which (759) are managed by the town's Office of Public Housing (OPHLM).
The remaining homes belong to a company called Audoise et Ariégeoise d'HLM or are co-owned by Saint Vincent.
The network also operates a nursery school, a primary school, a secondary school and a public services department.

Specific constraints

  • to develop a free and readily available renewable energy and help preserve the environment in a residential area
  • to improve the output of facilities
  • to manage energy consumption and heating costs for residents
  • to handle the distribution of heat and domestic hot water to over 700 homes

Dalkia response

  • installation of solar panels
  • construction of a 1.5 MW cogeneration plant in addition to the two existing boilers
  • deployment and management of remote control equipment; compiling of the financial dossier
  • operation of thermal generation units and distribution of heat

Results

  • reduction of carbon dioxide and sulphur emissions
  • development of solar energy to cover 48% of heating requirements and lower the cost of domestic hot water by 13%
  • reduction of financial risks thanks to Ademe's GRS (Guaranteed Solar Results) quality label
