A wood-fired boiler for an hospital

Customer : For the renovation of the heating system, Dalkia proposed to replace fossil fuel by a wood-burning solution.

Stakes

  • replacement of fossil fuel with timber, a local, natural and renewable source of energy
  • modernisation and compliance of the old facilities.

Results

  • Energy cost savings and maintenance employment for continuing boiler-house operations
  • reduction in polluting emissions :
    - SO2 : -66 tons/year
    - CO2 : -7,000 tons /year
    - NOx : -20%
    - particulates : 7- fold reduction

Dalkia response

  • redevelopment of the current facilities, using a wood-fired boiler in winter and a gas-fired boiler for domestic hot water in summer
  • installation of a 3.5 MW rated wood-fired boiler
  • supply of biomass via the Ardénergie network created by Dalkia, and recovery of otherwise unused wood waste
